First of all, the running routes around Fistral are simply stunning. As a result of the mixed terrains available, wildlife, and dramatic coastline on offer, there are plenty of distractions provided as you tackle some of the rolling Cornish hills.
With an abundance of runs available, you can set off from Fistral and see where your trainers take you. Or, if like us you prefer to know where you are headed you can have a look at a few of the suggested routes we have carefully selected. Which will hopefully help provide you with the extra incentive to enjoy the coastline.
The beach itself offers about 0.5 miles of sand at low tide. If you want to stay on the sand and absorb what is happening around you, you needn’t venture far.
The following running routes around Fistral all start and finish at the beach.
2 miles: Fistral Beach & Towan Headland
From North Fistral follow the coastal path around the corner to Little Fistral and up Towan headland. Once you have reached the lookout hut on Towan headland take a moment to enjoy the backdrop.
Relax into the downhill from Towan headland and head back towards the International Surfing Centre and onto the beach. The final stretch of this 2-mile run takes you to South Fistral and back. With a mix of terrains and views across the town and coastline this is a stunning route.
5km: Fistral Beach & Pentire Headland
From North Fistral it is hard not to spend time watching the waves crashing on Pentire headland. One side of this headland provides expansive views over Fistral Beach, and the other an overarching view of the Gannel estuary and Crantock Beach. Consequently, these views will always make the run out there entirely worthwhile.
To become engrossed by this view, this 5km route takes you out to Pentire headland and back. Follow the coastal footpath (which runs along the back of Fistral Beach) or go along the beach to South Fistral. From here there is a mix of road and paths which will lead you to the end of Pentire Headland.
5km: Fistral Beach & the Huer’s Hut
Enjoy a variety of views on this 5km running route around Fistral. Head towards South Fistral, and follow the footpath alongside the golf course which gives way to panoramic views of Fistral Beach. From here the harbour is the next destination, where the coastal path weaves up alongside it. This wraps around the coastline taking you past the Huer’s Hut towards Little Fistral, only a stone throw away from your finish at Fistral Beach.
10km: Seven Beaches
There is no better name for this running route around Fistral. Over this 10km route you can go on or past seven of Newquay’s beaches, that is a lot of sightseeing for one outing!
From Fistral, head out to Little Fistral and take the coastal path around to Newquay Bay. As you go around the corners the bay beaches all come into view. Depending on the stage of tide you can either use the coastal path and wind down into the Harbour and across the sand. Or if the tide is too high follow the road and footpaths along the top of the beaches.
